As part of our fall programming, we are excited to share the news that we will be offering the Alpha program.  You may be wondering what Alpha is.  Here it is in a nutshell.

The Alpha course is an evangelistic course which seeks to introduce the basics of the Christian faith through a series of talks and discussions. It is described by its organizers as “an opportunity to explore the meaning of life”.

Simply put, Alpha is a chance for each one who attends to ask anything and say what they think. We encourage our guests to respond to what they have heard and to ask questions in a safe, non-threatening environment.

Alpha begins on Sunday, September 10th at 6:00 pm and will be held each Sunday night until the end of November (with the exception of Thanksgiving Sunday.) We begin with a sit-down dinner, watch a video and then spend some time discussing what we watched.  It is structured around a relaxed and informal atmosphere that is fun and exciting.

Some of the relevant video chapters include:

  • Why does God Allow Suffering?
  • What about Other Religions?
  • Is There a Conflict Between Science and Christianity?
  • Is the Trinity Unbiblical, Unbelievable, and Irrelevant?
  • What about the New Spirituality?
  • Does Religion Do More Harm Than Good?
  • Is Faith Irrational?…………..and other topics.

We are encouraging the whole church to come and bring a friend or two who may be interested in what Christianity is all about and why you are a Christian.  And just a reminder – there is NO COST! Everyone will need to register so that we know how many people we can prepare for.

If you would be interested in leading a group, please speak to Gail Chartrand or Pastor Patti today.

There will still be small groups meeting throughout the week that you can be involved in.  More info to follow.

  • Baptismal Service will be held at Family Camp next Sunday, August 6th..

Have you been baptized?  What do we believe about Baptism? First of all it is a Sacrament.  A sacrament is a sacred action that Jesus commanded us to follow and uses physical elements, such as water, bread and grape juice to express outwardly what God does to redeem us.  Sacraments are visible signs of inward and spiritual grace.

From the Church of the Nazarene Manual, we read Article of Faith 12. Baptism

We believe that Christian baptism, commanded by our Lord, is a sacrament signifying acceptance of the benefits of the atonement of Jesus Christ, to be administered by believers and declarative of their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior, and full purpose of obedience in holiness and righteousness.

Baptism being a symbol of the new covenant, young children may be baptized, upon request of parents of guardians who shall give assurance for them of necessary Christian training.

Baptism may be administered by sprinkling, pouring, or immersion, according to the choice of the applicant.

Why be baptized? Christian baptism signifies a full commitment to be a Christ like disciple. It identifies the believer’s dying with Christ, being buried with Christ and rising with Christ as a new person. Baptism symbolizes the washing away of our sins through the death and resurrection of Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in giving us a new life in God.
