PRAYERS & PRAISES – Healed  to Serve

Thirty years ago in Papua New Guinea, 11-year-old Masa was in the middle of a fight between enemy families. Although he did not belong to either group, he was severely injured. A Christian man carried Masa to Kudjip Nazarene Hospital. In addition to saving Masa’s life, the hospital chaplains and staff shared the Good News of God’s love with Masa. The young man made the decision to follow Christ and, as he got older, began lay preaching. In October, last year, after years of study, Masa was ordained as a pastor in the Church of the Nazarene. Today, Masa pastors a church in an area known for heavy tribal fighting. Give thanks that the young boy, who was at the wrong place at the wrong time, is now a man with hope for the future and a new purpose: to help guide others toward salvation.

PRAYERS & PRAISES – Bollitos and the Gospel

PRAISE: In December, Jesus the Hope Church of the Nazarene in Carrizal, Venezuela, began a monthly service project to help combat the food crisis in their country. The church asked their community to bring handfuls of corn flour to make bollitos (a cooked corn dough with chopped vegetables) once a month for the homeless children, youth, and seniors in the cities of Los Teques and Carrizal. At the end of the month, the church makes the bollitos and youth volunteers distribute them while sharing the gospel. In March, more than 50 accepted Christ as their Savior, and the church was asked to open three discipleship groups in Los Teques. Pray for these new believers and for the new ministry.

 Missionary Moment

Where – “the Church Is Not Yet”

PRAISE: A pastor of a Ukrainian Church of  the Nazarene has been “going where the church is not  yet” for four years with a group ministering in a remote  mountain village. Because of the climate, the team can only access the village from May to September, on a 3-meter-wide (10-foot-wide) road with no railings. However, “the scariest thing is that, over the history of Christianity, they have never heard of the gospel,” the pastor said. “God has encouraged the people at our church, because they realized that they are part of something much bigger: they are part of God’s big mission.” Give thanks to God for the pastor’s willingness to reach others with the gospel.  Please pray for the people to whom they witness, and pray that the congregation in Ukraine will continue to recognize how they can make a difference in others’ lives.
